Last Tuesday, Connor Rand MP delivered a speech in the Chamber on NHS spending. In this speech he highlighted the scale of the challenges facing the NHS after 14 years of mismanagement and neglect under the previous government.
Connor welcomed the commitments made in the spending review and recognised the necessity of the £29 billion increase annually in day-to-day spending on the NHS. The government have also prioritised reform within the NHS by investing in technology and scrapping NHS England, decisions that Connor fully supports.
During his speech, Connor spoke about some of the local progress that has been made, noting that NHS waiting lists in Altrincham and Sale West have gone down for the fourth month in a row, and the increased investment secured for Village Surgery in Timperly.
He, also, requested that the future of Altrincham hospital be considered very carefully. Having publicly opposed the closing of the hospital’s minor injuries unit; he used his speech to advocate for the permanent opening of a diagnostic centre.
While Connor fully supports the government’s investment in the NHS, he recognised that there is still much more to do to deliver the health service the British people deserve. He is proud, however, to be part of a government that is determined to rise to the challenge and make it happen.
