During a visit with Manchester Foundation Trust to Altrincham Hospital, Connor got to meet staff and hear about the transformational impact of a new permanent skin cancer clinic at the hospital, following a trial period.

Since being elected Connor has consistently campaigned for enhanced services at Altrincham Hospital. He opposed the closure of the Minor Injuries Unit by the Greater Manchester Integrated Care Board, with the Unit first closing under the last Government. Connor has been calling for a permanent diagnostics centre to replace it.

Speaking about the news, Connor said:

“I am delighted that my calls on behalf of residents for new and improved services at Altrincham Hospital have been heeded and that we now have a brand new skin cancer clinic based permanently at Altrincham Hospital. Through the use of AI and new technologies, this will allow skin cancer to be detected and treated earlier for thousands of people and having the centre under one roof will allow patients to have a one-day pathway for treatment, rather than having to visit several different facilities.

This Labour Government has invested record amounts into our NHS, which has allowed new clinics such as this to open and waiting lists at our local NHS trust to fall for 10 months in a row.

I have met extensively with the Integrated Care Board and Manchester Foundation Trust to push for the skin cancer treatment trial to be made permanent. I know that the new clinic will be an asset to patients in Altrincham and Sale West, but I won’t stop there. I’ll continue to call for a new, permanent diagnostics centre for more tests and scans, so fewer local residents have to visit Wythenshawe Hospital.

Thank you to the staff at the hospitals who took the time to show me around and discuss the ways in which they aim to deliver the best possible care for residents in Trafford. I will continue to make the case within the government for investment in our health service to benefit Altrincham and Sale West residents.”
